Yakshagana at Kala Ghoda

Saw a performance of Yakshagana at the Kala Ghoda festival. This ancient art form was performed to the accompaniment of singing and instruments, with the role only being enacted by men. Yes, even the female roles are done by men as no woman would dare to perform those dare devil acts. Hmmm. The acting is emphatic and the actors even walk to the rhythm of the tabla beats. I don't know which part of the Ramayana was being performed or I would have enjoyed it much more.
I don't know why but the language seemed to have so much in common with Malayalam, and at one point I even imagined they were reciting in Malayalam.
